RC KIGOMA CALLS FOR EFFICIENT USE OF WEATHER AND CLIMATE INFORMATION TO LAKE TANGANYIKA USERS.

Kigoma Regional Commissioner (RC), Brigedia General Rtr.  Emmanuel Maganga, officiated the opening of Marine Stakeholders’ Sensitization workshop at Mwaka Hill Hotel on 15th September 2016. He was once welcomed by Col. Medo Msuya one of Tanzania Meterological Agency Ministrial Advisory Board who attended the workshop. They both emphasized on the use of weather and climate products for sustainable development.

‘It’s my belief that the purpose of conducting this workshop is to assess the stakeholder’s knowledge and requirement (understanding user needs) in the context of climate variability and its implication on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation for Lake Tanganyika users, hence make the best out of it’ said Brig. Gen. Maganga.

On behalf of TMA Director General, Dr. Hamza Kabelwa read the speech prepared by Dr. Kijazi by appreciating WMO initiatives through Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) by creating awareness on marine products to Lake Tanganyika users, thus reduce weather and climate impact risk.

The workshop consists of various stakeholders from Navy, Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA), captains/sailors, local transporters, fishers, Mahale National Park, Kigoma Regional Disaster Management committee member, Regional and District officers and Police (safety).
